Resistive magnetohydrodynamic equilibria in a torus
It was recently demonstrated that static, resistive, magnetohydrodynamic equilibria, in the presence of spatially-uniform electrical conductivity, do not exist in a torus under a standard set of assumed symmetries and boundary conditions. The difficulty, which goes away in the “periodic straight cylinder approximation,” is associated with the necessarily non-vanishing character of the curl of t...

متن کاملOn existence of resistive magnetohydrodynamic equilibria
A necessary condition for existence of general dissipative magnetohydrodynamic equilibria is derived. The ingredients of the derivation are Ohm’s law and the existence of magnetic surfaces, only in the sense of KAM theorem. All other equations describing the system matter exclusively for the evaluation of the condition in a concrete case. PACS: 52.30.-q , 47.20.-k , 47.65.+a
متن کاملv. MAGNETOHYDRODYNAMIC EQUILIBRIUM AND STABILITY
The layout of the major components of the BPX poloidal field (PF) system is shown in Fig. 5.1. External to the toroidal field (TF) magnet and assembly are the seven updown symmetric pairs of primary PF-producing coils. These are called the external PF coils. They are labeled in pairs, with PFlU being the inner (small major radius) PF coil closest to and above the midplane and PFZU-PF7U proceedi...
متن کاملNonlinear axisymmetric resistive magnetohydrodynamic equilibria with toroidal flow
The equilibrium of a resistive axisymmetric plasma with purely toroidal flow surrounded by a conductor is investigated within the framework of the nonlinear magnetohydrodynamic theory. It is proved that a) the poloidal current density vanishes and b) apart from an idealized case the pressure profile should vanish on the plasma boundary. For the cases of isothermal magnetic surfaces, isentropic ...
